TRL Levels

Model testing of The Seaphantom began in 2000 culminating with a patent issued in 2007. Since then, three versions have been built and tested, two of which achieved a Technical Readiness Level (TRL) of level 6. A third current version operates at TRL Level 5 but for under $500,000 could be upgraded quickly to a TRL Level 6.

Sea trials displaying Version 2’s, Level 6 capabilities were filmed and featured on the Discovery Channel program “Next World: Future Ships” as well as several TV news programs. These filmed capabilities included the use of a “B” propulsion system – a 180hp Mercury engine – which allowed a 3,500 lb overweight Phantom to still cruise at 80mph (70kts) off the Florida coast.

Understand

Equipped with hand-held drones, multibeam sonar and an array of CBRN sensors, SPI provides fast, flexible and cost effective platforms for identifying, surveilling and reconnoitering threats in the air, on the land, and under the sea over wide operational areas.

Communicate

Through the use of relay drones and/or networked wireless and satellite (e.g. cube sat) systems, arrays of SPI can provide wide area, real time intelligence to command authorities as well as operational components engaged in sea, air and land missions.

Move

With cruise speeds of 104+ knots and a very low RCS profile, Seaphantoms provide the fastest, stealthiest and most fuel efficient sea-borne mobility solution for men and material in the world. SP72s can carry 40-50 troops while SP54s are capable of carrying 16-20 depending on the size and weight of support armament/gear as well as special gear e.g. hyperbaric chambers.

Engage

Given the rapid response time required to counter the vast new array of littoral threats seen in the emerging era of asymmetric warfare, detection and identification become meaningless afterthoughts without the ability to engage and interdict. At 104+ knots, Seaphantoms are double the speed of other solutions such as Juliet Marine’s “Ghost” and the Israeli “Interceptor”.

Future Capabilities

Seaphantom’s unique design leads directly to expansion into three areas:

• Autonomous Surface Operation at High Speeds

• Submersible Operation

• Autonomous Underwater Operations including Super-Cavitation.

The Edge

While we have outlined the above capabilities of Seaphantom with regard to the core needs of the military, we recognize there are certain conditions and missions that Seaphantoms are not suitable for.

Nonetheless, we believe that there exists a wide range of value propositions wherein Seaphantom could dramatically impact the manner, mode, nature and cost profile of defense capabilities through solutions that are faster, better and cheaper.

Greater Speed & Capacity

There are no other vessels on the water or helicopters in the air capable of achieving our speed while stealthily deploying or extracting as many as three platoons with full gear.

Greater Capability

In addition to carrying manned units capable of high speed mobility with maximum flexibility in mission packages, Seaphantoms ability to carry as many as two hyperbaric chambers and other specialized search and rescue equipment makes it the premiere SAR package for littoral and maritime solutions.

Greater Fuel Efficiency

Seaphantom’s unique ability to “fly” over the water through utilization of a “wing-in-ground” means it encounters substantially less resistance, thus allowing it to operate with substantially less fuel consumption than other systems.

In addition, Seaphantom’s modular propulsion system allow it use many types of fuel – gasoline, CNG, electric or turbine motors – which not only provide flexibility in utilizing cheaper fuel sources but could significantly reduce its own as well as the mission’s pollution profile.

Greater Range

Given Seaphantom‘s fuel efficiency, the vessel uses substantially less fuel per nautical mile giving it greater range than other solutions using the same amount of fuel while operating under the same parameters.

Greater Operating Savings

With their highly efficient design, Seaphantoms enjoy substantially lower fuel costs as well as far less wear and tear on men and material, both of which contribute to dramatically lower short and long term operating costs.

Greater Capital Savings

Seaphantom’s efficiency allows it to carry more men and material, translating into faster, better and cheaper mission profiles. The cost of a pair of Mark V.1s is around $8 million while providing typical operational mobility for 2 platoons. The cost of one Seaphantom is roughly the same, though allowing as many as 3 platoons to be carried at roughly twice the speed and half again the distance for less operating cost.

Future Capabilities

Given the tremendous capabilities Seaphantoms currently offer, its development as an autonomous surface or undersea vessel would provide a paradigm shift to the entire world of USSOCM capabilities, making it a true game changer in defending the country.

Intracoastal Defense Networks (IDN)

Due to the Seaphantoms high speed, time on station and long range capabilities, littoral defense networks could be established relatively inexpensively along the entire coastline of the US.

Co-located roughly every 40 miles at ports of the proposed US Intracoastal Shipping Network, Seaphantoms would provide a picket line with 10 minute Time To Target at distance up to 300 miles offshore, depending on sea states and weather conditions similar to those restricting helicopters and other vessels.

With 200 ports to choose from, co-located bases could be easily adapted or rotated depending on any given mission profile or situation.
