Bassettere is located on the SW coast of St Kitts Island in the Leeward Islands group, and is one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Caribbean. Subsequently it is very well known for its variety of architectural styles and fascinating buildings, set against dense tropical forests and a huge dormant volcano. The domed colonial Treasury Building, or customs house, is a reminder of the value of these islands as sugar colonies. Take a stroll around Basseterre and wander around the Circus, a diminutive roundabout, modelled after Piccadilly in London. To reflect on the historical past visit Independent Square, the Cenotaph, St George’s Cathedral, Queen Vistoria Statue roundabout, and the National Museum, all truly of great interest.
For variety, enjoy some shopping at the Pelican Shopping Mall and the Amina Craft Market, or visit the Warner Park Sporting Complex. Take a trip and visit what many regard as the top historical attraction, Brimstone Hall fortress, which also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding islands! Then visit Romney Manor which provides a unique shopping or looking experience. There are many beautiful beaches, some offering horse-riding, to be explored, catamaran trips, as well as kayaking and hiking in the rain forest. There is simply so very much to be enjoyed.
